Motivational running

MB-I love what you said about being content with what you personally did and not judging your workouts by what someone else is doing, and I also love the idea of allowing someone else to be extra motivation to push beyond what you thought you could do. One of my friends told me that she was training for a mini at a 7:30 min/mile pace. I was in complete awe that she could run that far at such a fast pace. There was a point in my life when that time didn't seem unrealistic, but ever since I started running marathons, my pace has dropped off considerably, even during my short runs. I allowed myself to be comfortable with a more casual pace.
When I hit the treadmill the following Monday to do my usual 9:00 min/mile run, I suddenly had this urge to try to match my friend's 7:30 pace, if only for just a few miles. I was surprised that although it was more challenging than my normal run, I was able to do it without putting too much strain on my body. I don't think my next run will be quite that fast, but it was good to know that I am still capable of pushing myself beyond what I thought I could do. Plus, it's always good to shake things up once in awhile and avoid the monotony of the treadmill.
